Well, for starters, Hearst Castle in San Simeon is BIG. It has 169 rooms!
Mr Hearst himself called this place "La Cuesta Encantada", the Enchanted Hill, or more often just `the ranch.
From the 1920s into the 40s Mr Hearst and (his mistress) Marion Davies adored entertaining a steady stream of the areas biggest names, and invitations were highly coveted (source LP).
Architect Julian Morgan based the main building (seen here) on the design of a Spanish cathedral. Miss Morgan worked with him on the estate for the next decades, and catered to his every design (source LP).
Winston Churchill penned his anti-Nazi essays at Hearst castle in the 1930s.
