Pacific Coast and Big Sur.

W3, day 2: Pacific coast and Big Sur.

On the second day we continued to drive up the scenic California coast, on Hwy 1. The first stop was at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. It is almost halfway between LA and SF. The Madonna inn has been one of California`s landmark attractions for nearly 50 years. The 110 rooms each have a special theme, like room 156; Irish hills, room 209; Oriental Fantasy and room 139; Jungle Rock.

Pink is big at the Madonna Inn. This is the restaurant, and below you see the women`s toilet.

Next up, a closer look at Elephant seals along the coast.

We had lunch close to this beautiful beach.

All my fellow trekkers, from left: Nicola (Germany), Chihiro (Japan), Suki (England), Emma (England), Lee (England), me, Nicki (England), Claire (England), Hilke (Germany), Patricia (Switzerland) and Helen (England).

McWay falls, a really beautiful place.

Our last stop of the day was in Carmel-by-the-sea. The place has, according to Lonely Planet, the feel of a well-manicured country club. It is one of the most expensive places to live in California.

Our campsite the second night.
