Launceston, Tasmania´s second largest town.
Population 103 000.
This is where we spent our last night in Tasmania. The old mill was beside the parking. The place is called Penny Royal Hotel and apartments. Originally a coaching inn in Tasmania`s Midlands, the hotel was moved to its present location brick by painstacking bridge. Rooms have been done up but retain the wooden beams and old-world feel (source Lonely Planet).
On our last night in Tasmania we had dinner at Stillwater restaurant. We could see the restaurant from our hotel room and it was mentioned in LP as "Top choice". It is set in the stylish renovated Ritchie´s Flour Mill (c 1840s) beside the Tamar River. The food was amazing. I had Tasmanian trout on a beetroot bed of some kind, with local wine of course, and salted potatoes. Heaven!
We went back for brunch the next day and I had eggs (with smoked local trout this time) on their amazing homemade sourdough bread. This place is a must if you ever visit the city!!
Launceston does not have any city beaches so when the sun was shining on a clear blue sky the last day we drove up here to Cataract Gorge.
