Palm beach is known as the jewel of the Northern beaches. It is located in the northernmost suburbs of Sydney, about 41 km north of the city centre. We rented a car from Manly and drove up. It took us about 35-40 minutes.
Palm beach is used for exterior filming of "Home and away", as the fictional town of Summer bay. Unfortunately there was no film crew to be seen when we were there today. According to Twitter they had been filming on the beach in the morning yesterday before we arrived. Cathrine is a very big fan of "Home and away" so she showed me around and pointed out some of the most popular locations. She has been here a few times already, but it was my first time (but hopefully not last).
Palm beach reminds me very much of Laguna beach in California. They are both absolutely beautiful places where the houses are enormous and situated up in the hills. It is the place where you dream to live, but know you will never ever afford!
We decided to do a daytrip, renting a car from 3 pm on the 23rd and returning it 24 hours later. We had made a reservation at the "Barrenjoey house", 150 AUD for a night and a 3 course dinner ( package deal). It was really nice to leave the citylife and arrive to tranquility. The weather could have been better yesterday, but we read our books and walked around before our amazing dinner. The "Barrenjoey house" is really to be recommended should you ever want to visit Palm beach. The rooms and the atmosphere was so peaceful. The dinner was exquisite (I am running out of positive adjectives!), just too bad they didn´t tell us when they closed the bar. We wanted more drinks!!
A famous location!
Max and Ian at work!
Another location.
Today the weather was much better. It was still a bit cloudy in the morning, but from 11 am we had blue sky. Wow, Palm beach look ten times better on a sunny day. All photos look better too! In the morning we drove our little car around up in the hills to look at the expensive and big houses, followed by a trip to the beach in search of film crews and soapstars (but saw none!). We tanned for a couple of hours, decided we never wanted to leave, finished off our stay with a lunch at "the Boathouse" and avoided a parking ticket by 5 seconds (not enough coins, and when we got to the car, 30 minutes on overtime, the officer was standing at the car beside ours)!!
A shot from the restaurant "the Boathouse"- a really nice restaurant in perfect surroundings with awesome food.
